It is usually performed to record the heart rhythm which may or may not be associated with symptoms of palpitations, dizziness, lightheadedness or blackouts.
24-48 hour Holter are devices used to record the heart’s electrical activity while you are mobile.
These monitors are small enough to be worn comfortably on the body, and can usually be carried in a pocket or special monitor holder worn around your waist or over your shoulder. The monitors feature sensors that are placed on your chest with adhesive patches so the devices can pick up electrical signals from your heart.
Sometimes, it may be necessary to slightly shave the chest in order to apply the electrodes.
Long-term, continuous cardiac monitoring patches provide the option of monitoring the heart rhythm for longer duration (14-30 days). These devices are wireless and continuously monitor the heart rate with the option of recording an event if it occurs. By continuously recording beat-to-beat patient data for up to 30 days, these patches are cost-effective and efficient arrhythmia detection platform that uniquely provides Atrial Fibrillation Burden.
These wireless devices give higher diagnostic yield and change patient management compared to traditional 24-hour holter monitoring. These are very useful in the detection of following arrhythmias:
